Compact Fluorescent Light Bulbs

The world is going green and one bright, money saving idea is to start using compact fluorescent lights (CFL). Fluorescent lighting is more energy efficient than traditional light bulbs because they create light differently than incandescent lighting. Traditional light bulbs generate heat to cause a white light where as fluorescent bulbs contain a small amount of mercury that interacts with the gas that produces ultraviolet light when combined with electricity.

CFLs are so energy efficient that if every home in the United States replaced just a single light bulb with a fluorescent one, enough energy to light more than three million homes for one year would be saved. That translates to about $600 million. So switching to compact fluorescent lighting is not only great for the environment, but also a huge money saving tip.

It's time to Re-think the Light Bulb

Is it time to consider a switching your lights bulbs to compact fluorescent bulbs? How compact fluorescent lights can save you money.
It is important to remember that even though CFLs are so energy efficient and a great way to save money, there are trace amounts of mercury inside. So, always take great care not to break the fluorescent light bulbs. However, accidents happen, so if a CFL does break, be sure to use a broom not a vacuum, enclose broken pieces in a sealed plastic bag, wipe the area with damp paper towels, and ventilate the room.
When disposing of a CFL, it is a good idea to do properly, which means recycling it. If CFL recycling facilities do not exist in your area, place the burned out CFL in two sealed plastic storage bags to throw away.
